Re-org or regroup depending if it's a platoon or section
Not sure what PRESAW actually is ? Re-org/regroup should always be the last thing so I can't think why it would end in "W." - Maybe somebody will enlighten me.
You have PRESAR which is the same apart from Win the firefight is changed to Suppress the enemy, which makes far more sense.
There are other versions such as PROWAR, PRESAR etc etc. Different Regiments/people seem to use different acronyms and most don't really use this old stuff any longer
I was taught in Cadets 6 section battle drills are remembered using PRE SAW
is
1) Preparation for battle, which is remembered using the word PAWPERSO
PROTECTION - Make sure the area you are preparing in is secure (if you are on a secure friendly base then this is not relevant), otherwise use all round defence
AMMUNITION- Make sure you have adequate ammunition to complete the mission
WEAPON - Make sure your weapon works - Do your NSP'S and function test (if you dissembled the weapon)
PERSONAL CAMOUFLAGE - Cam yourself up, add foliage to your webbing and bush hat
EQUIPMENT - Make sure you have personal equipment on your person if needed, like gloves, and other essentials like your Helmet + other things
RADIOS - Make sure your radios work, they are fully charged, and are on the right frequency
SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT - Equipment you will need especially for the mission - for example if you will be entering a window on the 1st floor of a building, your specialist equipment may include things like a ladder.
ORDERS - So you Know Exactly what you will be doing on the mission.
2) Reaction to enemy fire - as cadets we are taught, take two rough shots at the likely direction of enemy fire, get down, crawl to cover, form a base line, - return effective fire
3) Enemy Location - As cadets the IC will shout "has anybody seen the enemy" to which upon sight a member of the section would reply with -EXAMPLE- "Enemy Seen, 200m half right, low bush"
4) Suppressing the enemy - using effective fire to put more rounds on the enemy, than the enemy are putting on you, - normally down to the IC, issuing a fire control order that's effective - if the enemy was a 2 man section who were on the off chance and attacked your 6 man section, using rapid fire on a 2 man section would not be appropriate as it would waste allot of rounds, - deliberate fire would be better
5) Attack - Split down into the approach, the assault, and the fight through
APPROACH - As cadets we were taught that the approach is where the section splits into fire teams, where we pepper potted forwards, until the position was reached.
ASSAULT - At this point the IC calls "Baseline" from here one fire team goes and attacks the position (gets up and charges at the enemy position), while the covering fire - fire team checks fire, to make sure they are not hitting their own men.
FIGHT THROUGH - basicly just pushing deeper into the enemy position, far past the enemy's fire position you just attacked.
6) REGROUP (Sections regroup, but Platoons Re-org)
Regroup is remembered using the word PACESSDO
PROTECTION - Protect your section from the likely direction of enemy's, no need for all-round defence, as there is no need to protect from the area you just came from.
AMMUNITION - Make sure everybody has adequate Ammunition left, - if one person has more than anybody else, re distribute it so everybody has the same
CASUALTY'S - Treat all your injured soldiers
EQUIPMENT - Make sure you still have your equipment.
Searches - Search the wounded and dead enemy for, supplies/Intel/weapons then treat any wounded so you can take them prisoner, and get more Intel out of them
Sit Rep - Call in to the HQ and tell them the situation, and make any requests, like med evac, or extra supplies.
DIG IN - Get down, defend your position, await more orders, or carry on the mission unless you already have orders which include procedures after being contacted
ORDERS - Once you have your orders follow them.
If this helped you then great, as I don't know how closely this is to the army's way of doing things, but if not Hopefully it will help other cadets needing help on their 6 section battle drills!
