Please don't be vague- I really am curious. Does it hurt as much as everyone says it does? Why do they say you enter the jaws of death to have a baby? Is it really that scary????????? Has anyone had a natural childbirth? How was that?

I had a natural childbirth and i found it really traumatic. It begins with small pains just like period pains then becomes bigger as tough the pains you get when you need a poo but havnt gone. When i went into hospital, the midwife sent me home saying i wasnt in labour, It got so bad i had to find anything hard to sit on just to ease the pain, anyway after another visit to the hospital and nearly a full day gone i was in agonising pain, i rang the hospital and they made out as tough i was making a big deal out of nothing, i felt as tough i needed a poo and went i went her head came partly out and caused me to bleed, that meant i had to then travel 20 minutes to the hospital with her head squashed causing her distress and me needing to push on the way. Because of that midwife i had no time for gas and air, an epidural-nothing as soon as i got there she was born. I would say the pains are like waiting for a poox50, then pushing feels as tough your trying to push a watermelon out of something the shape of a lemon, when the head actually come out tough it just sought of slides out all in one really quickly-big relief, then you just have to give birth to the placenta.
The contractions are worse than the actual birth for some. It hurts so badly that you want to push it out to stop the pain. It is like having a million leg cramps all in your abdomen. You do not have to push to give birth...the baby will come anyway, but most women find it such a relief to be over.
There is no shame in asking for an epi. A lot of people push for natural childbirth, but it is up to the woman.
A long labor (53 hours for me) can be very traumatic for a Mom and interfere with bonding.
Jaws of death is probably referring to less than a hundred years ago when 1/4 of women died, and 1/4 of babies died. It is now far safer, and though some may feel like they are dying, the docs know when to take over.
I had an epidural, so really the only thing I actually felt was when the baby was born there was a very strong burning sensation that I experienced when she actually was coming out and I felt the after birth come out like a big gush of something, it was a strange feeling, but didn't hurt.
I wasn't brave enough to go the "no pain medicine" way, I'm just not that into pain !!!
Good Luck.
HI WELL THEY DONT CALL IT LABOUR 4 NOTHING LOL. CAN I JUST SAY THO IT ISNT THE PUSHING OR THE BABY COMING OUT THAT HURTS, IT IS THE CONTRACTIONS, I HAD A NATURAL BIRTH AND FOUND THE CONTRACTIONS SO PAINFUL AND WHEN I GOT 2 HOSPITAL HAD GAS N FELT A MILLION TIMES BETTER. I HAD A HUGE BABY ASWELL LIKE 1 STONE AND SHE WAS FACING BACKWARDS SO I WAS GETTIN BACK PAINS ASWELL, N IT HURT ALOT BUT U DONT NEED THE HARSH DRUGS, GAS WAS ENOUGH. BUT REMEMBER DONT BE SCARED OF THE PAIN BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE IN THE CONTRACTION STAGE THATS IT, THE PUSHING DOESNT HURT, DUNNO IF THAT MAKES U FEEL BETTER BUT I NEVER KNEW THAT AND WAS DREADING THE PUSHING BIT AND FELT NOTHING LOL! GOOD LUCK ANYWAY X
p.s. while u r going through the pain u will regret ever getting pregnant and will want 2 sacrifice everything 4 the baby and pain 2 go away, it is THAT bad, but just laugh at urself and hit ur boyfrend a few times, makes it more memorable and fun :), once u have given birth u will soon be eager 2 do it again lol
I had 3 babies and I wont lie, it hurts BIG time and the pain is out of this world. I did not have no meds either, i was all natural. I know, I'm crazy but I did it 3 times...lol Some women can go through it with no meds and others want it all...lol But once your precious baby is born, the pain is gone for good. You will hurt in your private but you have to remember that the head is the hardest to push out and once you do that, the rest of their body just slides out if there is no complications. Giving birth is very very painful but at the end of it all, you bring home your precious baby and life begins for you and everyone involved..:o)
The jaws of death is also known as The ring of fire because as your baby is being born the vagina stretches. Yeah it does burn a lot but your body works very hard to get the baby out and the contractions can feel very powerful.
I think the imagination can work overtime worrying about it. It wasn't as bad as I thought, I had quite a lot of gas & air.
Natural child birth er no no no! my friend did it natural in a birthing pool so it can be done!
I had a natural childbirth and it wasn't that bad. It's a healthy sort of pain, more like working out than like having a tooth ache. And when the baby comes out it is a tremendous relief and pleasure.
I would recommend natural childbirth to every mother.
I also think my recovery was easier than moms have who get pain medication. Good luck!
the best person to ask would be your mother. some people don't feel any pain at all with it and others go through the most exrutiating agony possible. My other halfs feomale rellies have been telling me horror stories about how painful the contractions are but that stopped when my mother was chatting to his mother at a recent party and told them that when my due date nears I need to be attended at all times because she didn't realise that she was in labor until her waters broke and had finished giving birth within an hour of that happening and that I was extremely likely to be the same!
well with my first baby i got a apaderal, but it was wearing off when i was going to start pushing. It felt like i had to take a poop and a little buring sensation (the nurse told me we call it the ring of fire) and with my second didnt feel nothing apaderal worked fine. My sister had her son natural and she was in SOOOOOOO much pain i felt sorry for her.
