I want to get a Confederate/Rebel flag tattoo but i'm afraid of being labelled a racist? I'm not from the south and i'm totally against racism. I want this tattoo as a personal symbol of freedom. What are your opinions on this? My last question about this got deleted for no good reason.
Update:Because I don't want a bird tattoo. If you have nothing else to say other than going against my ideas, then do not answer my question and move the **** on.

Generally, the services disallow ANY tattoos for officers, making exceptions only for enlisted who move into being commissioned officers ("Mustangs"). I see from what you write that you do not have an understanding of the term "Confederate flag" - there is no "the" Confederate flag - but I am wiling to bet that you have a tattoo of the rectangular Confederate Navy jack (blue saltire on red field with 13 white stars). The Confederate Army battle flag was square. Neither of those flags ever represented the Confederate States of America and what you have was only one of more than 117 known "battle flags." Unfortunately, that particular flag that was originally used by the Veterans association of the Army of Northern Virginia was later co-opted by hate groups a long time ago without a tremendous backlash from real Southerners. If you find that the Marines will accept ANY tattoo on an officer I suggest you get the tattoo altered to the "Bonnie Blue" flag (an international symbol of independence movements) or changed to the CS 1st National flag, the REAL "Stars and Bars." The responses here should demonstrate the general ignorance surrounding the CS battle flag. Folks do not realize that the CS Army included 13,000 Indians from the Five Civilized Tribes," one of whom (Brigadier General Stand Watie) was the only non-white American military general until 1940, or that Black Southernes also served as regular soldiers in the CS Army. Incidentally, I am a 16th generation Virginian and Civil War reenactor/historian.
There are better symbols to represent freedom than that. In fact I think the rebel flag represents the opposite since the south was in favor of slavery. Why not do a bird tattoo instead
as a biracial person that has been harassed by racist white power nazis, I would personally avoid people with Confederate flags tatted on them because I have had bad experience with people that had those kinds of tattoos or had those kind of flags hanging behind them. It's what you think matters not what others think I personally though would avoid you because like I said I've been harassed and jumped by those kinds of people
I would encourage anybody getting a tattoo because i am a fan but if you are conscious it might offend people or give people the wrong impression of you i would suggest getting it somewhere easily hidden
Get the constitution written on your back!
maybe thats a sign to not get it
