I am in Year 10 and I am interested in journalism and politics, I applied for a job at the Hume Leader newspaper but I was unsuccessful. I have been looking for other placements but I am not sure what to do.
Any Suggestions?

Your work experience co-ordinating teacher should be helping you with this. Employers will only take those who come with school help and references.
Media places will often fill up pretty quickly, so keep trying at a bunch of other local newspaper places and even find a newsagency near you and take a look at any magazines/papers that could offer something but unless your actual weeks are more towards the end of the year it's not the most likely thing.
It's not the same but you can try the abc as well.
You could enquire at your local MP's office or try legal - a law-firm for example.
You school school should have some co-ordinator that should be helping you as well, although I did media experience and legal (both last year) and my co-ordinator didn't help at all but thats different circumstances. Really though, don't stress out too much about it. Most people get pretty boring work experience in yr.10 that have nothing to do with the careers they're working towards/have. Still apply for things and if you get something then great but what you do in that week (or two) really doesn't matter.
Journalism Work Experience Melbourne
Affectionately called "Marvellous Melbourne" throughout the silver hurry of the 1850s, the name remains applied today for Australia's second greatest city Melbourne, a town that you can visited with hotelbye . On the banks of the Yarra River, nearby the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne is a modern town steeped in history. With huge wealth made from the regional goldfields, grand houses were created through the city. A number of these houses however stand nowadays, and Melbourne is regarded as having more examples of Victorian architecture than every other city in Australia. One place you cannot skip in your stop by at Melbourne may be the Southbank and Arts Centre Melbourne. On the banks of the Yarra River this region is a culturally wealthy appeal for visitors. Keep at it! Newspapers are a good place for work experience in that field, so just tell them you will work for free if it means you get some experience. Just try your best to convince them you are really passionate about it and it will be a great stepping stone for your future. Try other newspapers as well.
Good luck!
There are plenty of employers who offer work experience, but the majority will only accept those who arrange it through their careers coordinator at school. Maybe some, like Sheila, will accept cold calls, but it is best and safest to go through your school, and ensure you get the correct payment, and OH&S protection. As far as in Human Resources, that is a total dead end job, all you will be able to do with one of them as work experience is make or collect the tea and coffee and run errands.
The 8th Wonder, that is only one newspaper, what about the rest. The question I have for you, don't you work experience kids go through one of your teachers or a coordinator for this?
