The largest islands are Great Britain and Ireland.

the groups of smaller island are:the Hebrides,the Orkneys and the Shetlands in the north,the Isle of Man and Anglesey in the Irish sea, the Scilly islands and the Isle of Wight in the Channel.

The seas surrounding the British Isles are : the Atlantic Ocean in the east and the English Channel in the south. The Enghlish Channel and the North Sea separate England from continental Europe.The Irish Sea and St. George's Channel separate England from Ireland.Great Britain and Northern Ireland form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland and Wales together are called Great Britain. Ireland is divided into two parts : the northern part is called Ulster and is British, the southern part is called Eire and is an independent republic. The capital of the United Kingdom is London.Great Britain is a large island made up of thhree countries:England,Wales and Scotland.With Northern Ireland,it forms the United Kingdom(UK) The UK has a population of 58 million.The seas surrounding it are not very deep and they are warmed by the North Atlantic Current which comes from the Gulf of Mexico.Its climate is generally mild and temperate, but the weather changes frequently.Ben Nevis is the highest peak (1,340 m).The longest rivers are the Severn (354 km) and the Thames (346 km) which flows through London.Great Britain has a lot of lakes. The most beautiful (Windermere, Grasmere, Coniston) are in the Lake District a region near the Scottish-English border.The capital city of the United Kingdom is London,in England.Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, Cardiff iis the capital of Wales and Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland.The flag of the United Kingdom is the Union Jack which combines the red cross of St George of England, the white cross of St Andrew of Scotlaand and the red cross of St Patrick of Ireland on a blue background. English is the official language of the United Kinngdom, but Welsh is used a lot in Wales, and in Scotland some people still speak Gaelic. Both Welsh and Gaelic are very old languages, very different from English......
