what would cause a horse-shoe shaped bruise to appear on my lower back around my spine?
my roommate saw my back when i was changing and saw a big bruise on my lower back. i looked at it in a mirror and it is horse-shoe shaped and is on my lower back. it is a dark purple color.
How should we know. It could be that you hurt yourself right there or somebody did it. Normally you should know where you got it. It will fade away after some time, I believe..
I always wear boots. They aren't steel-toed, but they are sturdy enough to provide protection. I have a permanent scar (it's kind of a blue mark) on my foot from being stepped on by my mare. She's very good and respectful usually, and I was being careful with her, yet something spooked her and she jumped and landed on my foot- then she was too scared to move so she wouldn't get off of it! It was a freak accident, but I have a permanent scar and I don't have feeling in the bottom half of my foot now. I didn't break anything but there was some nerve damage. That happened years ago and it's definitely permanent... I wore my sneakers to the barn that day because I wasn't planning on riding, just grooming and doing a little general work. I thought they were sturdy enough (they're pretty sturdy sneakers) but definitely not! I hate to think what would've happened to my foot if I'd been wearing moccasins or sandals. So, don't ride in moccasins! Bad bad idea... no matter how calm the horse is and how careful you are, accidents happen.
