I'm only 7 weeks pregnant but I want to prevent those belly stretch marks? Any recommendations? I stood in the lotion isle for 20 minutes at the pharmacy, and I had no clue which product was better to use?
PLEASE HELP!
Aggiornamento:I am already happily pregnant! So whomever seems to think that "NOT GETTING PREGNANT IN THE FIRST PLACE" is the answer to my question then your just rude, grrrr. I just want to try to prevent them. Anyways nobody ever said - doing nothing is better than doing something. I just want to help prevent them, and try to do something about it.

Though there is no way to prevent them, some things can help. What I used was Palmer's Cocoa Butter and I also bought a small bottle of PURE vitamin E oil and mixed about a tablespoon, almost 2 into the bottle of lotion. And then when i get out of the shower, I go ahead and just put the plain vitamin E oil on. So far it had worked. I am one day past my due date and have not one stretch mark. But also, my mother never did either. I have heard that it is hereditary. Good luck!!
The method that I've seen many actresses and models use is: 1) Drink lots of water 2) Controlled weight gain (healthy enough for the baby, without packing on the pounds) 3) Vaseline, Rose Hip Oil, or coconut oil constantly applied and massaged to the area. (don't forget stretch marks can occur in more areas than just the belly) Whatever the exact product it should protect and encourage Elastin and collagen growth/maintenance. The first source listed below (from the Cleveland Clinic) also sites recomendations for dietary supplements. Prevention is definitely easier than removal... I've tried several over-the-counter "stretch mark removal" creams(I was not prepared or knowledgeable of the stretch mark epidemic that I was to be stricken with), with little luck(mine were excessive), but have not yet tried laser removal. If you find someone that provides a cream that works, find the specific brand AND how bad the marks. As some have stated these product results vary greatly depending on whether they are a few barely visible marks versus "a road map"(as stated earlier).
Some people say you cant prevent this and lotions wont work if you have the skin for it you will get them but i dont believe this. I have the skin for stretch marks as i have them on my legs and bum from pre-pregnancy when i went through growth and weight spurts as a teenager, however i have used The Body Shop cocoa butter body lotion every night since day 1 of finding out i was pregnant and at 33 weeks i have yet to have 1 stretch mark on my expanding belly (touch wood). Cocoa butter increases skin elasticity for when it stretchs and so decreases the risk of stretch marks
My mom has had 7 kids and no stretch marks ! When I got pregnant with my first she told me to put olive oil in my baths. So I started as soon as possible. And sure enough no stretch marks ! Not only will it help with stretch marks but it can also help you from having to have a episiotomy ! Congrats ! and good luck !
they say strech marks run in your family, so if your mom has them then most likely you will. But if you use cocoa butter it should help them not be as dark. I think pretty much everyone gets them, but for the most part if you make sure you rub cocoa butter on your tummy they should fade after pregnancy.
I hear that Palmers Cocoa Butter works fine but i also heard its genetic some pregnant women get them others dont, so if you know if your sisters or mom got them, hem you could too.
You really cant. Its genetic, its skin type. Some women slather themselves in layers and layers of lotions oils and creams every day and still end up covered in dark, angry stretchmarks. Others dont use creams once and never get a single one.
Short answer..there is no way to prevent them..either your gonna get them or your not! I bathed in all types of "prevention" lotions and at 30 weeks some popped up..I was soo upset..there not that bad but I swore I would not get any.
Palmers Cocoa Butter is great!
LOL !! you remind me of my own self ! i am really careful of my body.i am 1 weeks pregnant at the moment & have been usig bio oil & some times palmer's cocoa butter !
