Yesterday I was for the first time at a new job (they openly lied about the working and payment conditions, those were rather major things and if I knew them before I would never go there in the first place - so I quit at the end of the day) and I was expected to carry some really heavy things in my handbag. Today my shoulder is very sore, I have a dent left from the sling - I can't even stand a bra-strap there - and my upper back seems stiff. The shoulder seems to get worse through the day, my arm also feels very weak.
Can you recommend something? Some exercise to loosen up the muscles, perhaps?

It sounds like you have a pinched muscle in your back to cause those pains. You can get rid of the problem by freeing up the muscles in your back and here's how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
